Benni McCarthy: FKF President discloses when new Harambee Stars coach will be named

  • FKF President Hussein Mohammed has announced that the process of finding a new coach for the Harambee Stars team is expected to be completed soon.
  • The team is eager to secure a highly skilled coach who will not only lead them to success but also uphold the terms of the agreed-upon contract.
  • Reports indicate that a former assistant coach of Manchester United is a strong candidate to eventually become the new manager of the team.

Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed has disclosed that they are in the process of finalizing the next coach of Harambee Stars.

It has been over a month since Hussein assumed leadership of local football after winning against the nominee backed by his predecessor, Nick Mwendwa.

Hussein discovered a full workload awaiting him at Kandanda House, which included processing the resignation of Engin Firat, who was reportedly resigning due to unpaid dues. At the same time, Kenya is placing a huge emphasis on being fully prepared to co-host the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) next month while clocking in long hours.

When will the Kenyan national soccer team, referred to as Harambee Stars, receive a new head coach?

A 47-year-old individual has now publicly disclosed that the country's national men's football team will receive a new coach within a week or so. In a conversation with Nation Sports, the individual stated that it is crucial to tie up all outstanding issues to prevent similar problems encountered in previous contracts from recurring.

FKF is seeking a capable coach and a skilled technical staff to accomplish our goals. This is an ongoing process, so the current team was only appointed on an interim basis. We will notify them of the selection of a new coach within the next week.
We aim to get everything on track due to contractual commitments and our future plans. We previously faced significant difficulties in paying coach salaries, and we're determined not to repeat this mistake.

Who will be the next coach of the Harambee Stars, Kenya's national football team?

Reports continue to suggest that Benni McCarthy is the top candidate to replace Firat. According to sources, the Football Kenya Federation task force headed by McDonald Mariga, Hussein's deputy, has identified the South African international as the preferred choice, with no indications of any unexpected changes at this time.

Who is Benni McCarthy?

He is the legendary champion who won the Champions League with the renowned Jose Mourinho-led Porto team in 2004.

He has coached Amazulu and Cape Town in his domestic country. His most recent role was at Manchester United, where he served as the forwards coach under Erik ten Hag.

If appointed, this will be his first national team assignment at 47 years old.

Will the new coach be in command at the CHAN tournament?

If performances over the past week are indicative of the new coach's tactics, it is likely he will guide the national team into the African Nations Championship starting on February 1.

Francis Kimanzi has been serving in an interim capacity and has guided the team at the Mapinduzi Cup, where they failed to make the final.
