  • Melvine returned to school in 2024 at Kipkisoi Girls High School, where she sat for her final secondary school examination.

A young girl from West Pokot county's Kapenguria has risen above her challenges to excel academically.

Melvine Timtim Chebor demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination in the face of challenges to achieve outstanding results in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

How old is Melvine?

In spite of facing numerous emotional and financial difficulties during her secondary education, the young girl managed to earn seven consecutive As in the national test.

She remembered the difficult time when she was diagnosed with leukemia right after starting high school.

2022 was a tough year for me. After I was released, my father passed away in a car accident. Just around that time, we were planning to travel to India again, so it was challenging, both financially and emotionally for me.

When did Melvine make a trip to the Republic of India?

She traveled to India in 2023 where she had a bone marrow transplant due to the diagnosis of blood cancer.

She was unable to attend her final high school exam due to her recovery from surgery, leaving her hesitant to continue studying.

Who is Melvine's aspiration in future?

In addition to English, where she earned a B plain, she received As in the other subjects, achieving a mean grade of A, with an average of 84 points.

I tried. You can forget a lot in just two years. There were additional textbooks, six books to learn in total - three in English and three in Kiswahili. It was challenging, but I read them.

The young girl aims to become a cardiothoracic surgeon, with her aspiration being to "heal people at the hands of God."

She expressed gratitude for being still standing after facing such a challenging struggle, solely by the favor and guidance of God.
